RI lawmakers delay two-day meeting until October

PROVIDENCE—House lawmakers will delay their return to Rhode Island’s State House until early October instead of meeting next week.
A spokesman for House Speaker William Murphy said Thursday that lawmakers will hold a special two-day session starting Oct. 7. Murphy earlier said legislators would reconvene in July, then pushed it back to the first week in September.
It remains unclear which bills will be considered during the meeting.
Greg Pare, a spokesman for Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed, said he did not know when the Senate would meet. Paiva-Weed’s husband died of cancer Saturday, and several lawmakers said they expected his death could delay their next meeting.
In June, the General Assembly declared an unusual summer break, leaving major legislation in limbo.

A longer recess needed to buy more school clothes.
Hooray for us! These yahoos should postpone their next meeting until 2012. We will be better off.
