RI hiring more staff to deal with food stamps

PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island is using federal stimulus money to hire up to three more workers to process food stamp applications.

The state has been struggling with a backlog of applications during the economic downturn.

The Rhode Island chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union accused the state in a federal lawsuit last week of failing to promptly process food stamp applications.

A spokeswoman for Gov. Don Carcieri says the state had received approval to hire the workers before the suit was filed.

The executive director of the Rhode Island ACLU, Steven Brown, says the organization will continue to pursue the lawsuit “unless and until it is clear that these delays are resolved.“

These hard times calls for drastic measures…like hiring three…well up to three, maybe only two or one extra state worker…this is genius…because we all know, the only people doing less work for profit than welfare recipients are state workers hehehehehehhehe…I’m kidding of course…or am I muahahhahahahahhah

Hazad626 - the state only needs to find people who actually are willing to put in a hard day’s work for a good pay.  If they honed their hiring practices, half the staff at the Registry of Motor Vehicles could be working in other government programs and get the work done in half the time!

No,no, no!  It’s the SNAP program people!  Don’t you hear the ads on the radio???  They advertise because we NEED more people on the dole in RI!! We don’t have enough, not even with the do-nothing legislature and state workers we have all ready!  You mean to tell me that they couldn’t reassign 3 workers that already exist to do this job?  Oh…can anyone tell me what the h*ll SNAP means?

They should’ve used the money to hire three people to investigate welfare/disability fraud instead.  That would free up an awful lot of government money.

that’s even better! I’m Dominican smile but it’s true it takes forever to do anything with foodstamps now, especially at the welfare building on elmwood.

I wonder if they will work as hard as some other state workers do…and are they all hired as supervisors?
