Reed heads to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq

PROVIDENCE—Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island is traveling to Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan to meet with security officials and soldiers.
Reed’s office said Monday that the Democratic lawmaker left Sunday for the region and plans to return during Labor Day weekend. Spokesman Chip Unruh would not release details of the trip - such as a travel schedule or who the senator is traveling with - due to security concerns.
His says the senator, who’s on the Armed Services Committee, wants to get a firsthand look at security and political developments in the region. He also plans to meet with foreign leaders and civilian personnel.
