I’m not going to get into a continuous argument over health care with a democrat. The government run programs may work well but thet are going broke and it will affect all of us since we pay taxes to run them, the new option obama wants will just increase that burden. I find it amusing that we never hear about charitable orginizations like the Shriners or Ronald Macdonald house that do work for children and do it with charitable donations. By the way obama wants to get rid of the tax deduction for charitable contributions, what affect is that going to have?
corg - Do you agree that Medicare and Medicaid are good ideas for the elderly? how about the Veterans Administration? How about the government run childcare that Ted Kennedy passed a long time ago that ensures health care for children? All good ideas and goverment run agencies. Do you know why the government runs these worthwhile agencies that help millions of Americans? Because the insurance companies don’t want them! they are not the kinds of customers they want. That is the downside of capitalism in the health care industry. If it was so good why do we rank low in every single measurable category of health in the world? Life expectancy, birth rate fatalities, I can go on…..It’s broken dude, and it needs fixing. Nobody wants government to TAKE OVER. It is just an option for those that the insurance companies don’t want. You are paying through the nose for your health care and that is ok? Wait until someday if you ever contract a fatal disease or have to mortgage your home to cover expenses and see how you think about then. It’s happening to millions of Americans all the time under the present ‘system’. Believe me I think smaller government is better but not for the basics like health care (or the prison system for that matter), but that’s a topic for an other day.
TMAN, Do you seriously think that a government option is not the government taking over. how do companies in a capatilistic country compete with a government sponsered company. The government has an endless money supply “OUR TAX DOLLARS”. The private sector has to make that dirty word “PROFIT”! Dirty to socialists. The government option will mean the same bereuacrats that run Amtrack, Post Office, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security etc. will be running health care. I know the other above mentioned government agencies run so well. Obama is after the power and control of the ealth care system its not about our health!
Joe, seriously? Really? You think Obama tackling health care reform is about “government taking over our lives”? Hoqw about the notion that BIG BUSINESS has taken control of our lives? Left unregulated, the insurance and pharma industry has taken advantage of our health care system and is living very large because of it. We live in a capitalistic society where making money and increasing shareholder value is numero uno Joe. The goverment is suppose to put laws into place to keep them in check. Obama simply sees a problem and wants to correct it whether that involves a government option (not a takeover) so that those uninsured can get health care and me and you can keep our current policy. It’s all about creating a little competition that the big insurance companies will avoid AT ALL COST. That is why they are out in droves scaring the crap out of folks like yourself and anyone gullible to believe them (death panels???) C’mon Joe, do some research and read more and you’ll find the truth.
I am not totally surprised at the voting results thus far.
I find that most people especially the ones retired like myself, want to be treated fair and impartial. But that is not going to happen with this health care plan.
This is not about health care but government control of our lives.
Our government cannot even run anything let alone the largest health care industry in the world.
How much more do you what the government to do for you?
What is considered personal responsibility will be instead shared by all so the bums who did nothing with their lives get the same as the ones who did.
If this is not socialism, what is????
Make sure you call, write the bums in Washington especially the ones from RI not to vote on this.
Patches, stay clean, there are people here in RI that worship the ground you Kennedy’s walk one. Dad is occupying a spot reserved for honest men who gave their lives for this country, he does not deserve to be among them.
The Senators and Representitves that conducted Town halls may be affected by the outcry from the constituency but if they don’t abide by the desires of their voting public and push through a bill, they best not plan on another term in office. The American people have had enough and admitting they vote on bills they haven’t read just adds fuel to the fire!!
