PROVIDENCE - Rhode Island is receiving more than $116 million in federal funding to reduce pollution, improve water quality and create green jobs.
Sen. Jack Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat and member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced the funds Monday at the Providence office of Save the Bay.
Most of the money is coming from the federal stimulus package. The remaining funds are provided by an omnibus spending bill approved earlier this month.
The money is intended to help clean Narragansett Bay and reduce pollution with clean water and energy projects, sewer upgrades and marine education programs.
It’s not clear how many jobs the funds will create.
