WASHINGTON—The city of Providence is receiving more than $1.75 million in federal stimulus funding to make homes and municipal buildings more energy efficient.

Sen. Jack Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat, announced the funding Thursday. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The award will require the city to report how much energy is being saved and how many jobs have been created or retained.
