Pawtucket mayor: ‘We expect the worst’ from budget

PROVIDENCE—Pawtucket Mayor James Doyle said Monday that he’s not expecting much from the state when Gov. Don Carcieri unveils his budget on Tuesday.

“We expect the worst,“ Doyle said. “Obviously (the governor) hasn’t said anything, but what we’re picking up, we expect the worst. We don’t expect any relief coming out of there at all.“

Doyle said he has already laid off some workers and given mandatory unpaid days to others.

“What they may also start to see and we have to look at is a possible four-day work week in the city,“ he said. “I don’t want to espouse that at this point in time, but these are part of the what ifs.“

The governor is also expected to detail a tax credit for businesses that hire new employees.

This city need someone with a backbone and new ideas, Doyle and most of the council are morons! They are good at raising taxes and spending money the city doesn’t have. There are most likely two challengers to Doyle this year , Grebien and Kinch both long time politicians in the bucket, so get ready Pawtucket Taxpayer lube up it’s coming
