NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang said he plans to seek re-election in the fall, but it would be his final term if elected.

Lang announced during an interview on WBSM radio Monday that it was “very appropriate” to run for a third term in office, but he added that people need to return to their private lives at a certain point.

Lang said he was not concerned about becoming a “lame duck mayor” by announcing now that his next two-year term would be his last. He said he was confident he could serve effectively in a third term and help transition to new leadership.

The only other candidate to take out nomination papers for the November election is E. Michael Janson, a perennial candidate for mayor.
