WOONSOCKET, R.I. - The daughter of Woonsocket Mayor Susan Menard died unexpectedly in her home near Boston.

Woonsocket officials said Carrie Pilavin was found dead early Tuesday morning in her family’s home in Newton.

She was 31 and leaves behind a husband and 2-year-old and 4-year-old sons.

The Massachusetts medical examiner will do an autopsy.

City Planning Director Joel Mathews said Menard had a special relationship with her only daughter and that the death has left the mayor crushed.

Attorney Howard Croll said Menard’s daughter met her future husband at a political fundraiser during her mother’s first run for mayor.
