Mass. Senate president calls casinos ‘inevitable’

BOSTON - Senate President Therese Murray said casinos in Massachusetts are “inevitable.“

In an interview aired Thursday by WBUR-FM, the Plymouth Democrat said the continued flow of gambling dollars from Massachusetts to Connecticut and other states with legalized gambling shows why the Bay State should expand its own gambling offerings.

She said she personally favors resort casinos, the kind of destinations that Gov. Deval Patrick proposed last year but saw defeated by then-House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi.

New Speaker Robert DeLeo said he supports expanded gambling of some sort. The Legislature is expected to act on a bill sometime early next year.
