Lawmakers consider ban on indoor prostitution

PROVIDENCE—Lawmakers could soon close a loophole making Rhode Island the only state besides Nevada that permits indoor prostitution.

The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday when it will consider compromise legislation banning prostitution no matter where it happens. Legislative leaders have said they want a final version ready for a floor vote likely during a special two-day session of the General Assembly starting Wednesday.

The House and the Senate passed differing anti-prostitution bills earlier this year. They could not agree on a compromise before taking an abrupt break in late June.

Those engaging in outdoor prostitution can be arrested under current state law.

Focus on job CREATION. Legislators… too many people, for some time now, are suffering in YOUR state and in addition, more & more will be as more jobs are lost and those collecting benefits, exhaust their unemployment insurance.

As I’ve said before, if you can’t see this as a priority, step aside. Let those who can PRODUCE results, be the leaders. These legislators can stick with the “same old, same old”, but the voters will determine if you have produced.

To the RI public: Be sure to be registered to vote. It’s time to clean out the “country club”.
