PROVIDENCE—The national health care debate will be on the agenda this week for two Democratic lawmakers back from Washington.
Rep. Jim Langevin has a town hall meeting scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Warwick City Hall. The meeting is open to any topic, though his spokeswoman, Joy Fox, says she expects health care reform is sure to come up.
Langevin met earlier this month with members of the Rhode Island Tea Party.
Members of the national group oppose health care reform and have disrupted some similar town hall meetings elsewhere.
Fox said they assured him it would be a civil conversation and constructive dialogue.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse is hosting a community dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the West Warwick Senior Center on 145 Washington St. to hear about Rhode Islanders’ personal experiences with the health care system.
The two lawmakers also have events scheduled for the following week.
Langevin is holding a town hall meeting scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Bandstand at Wilcox Park in Westerly.
Whitehouse is also hosting a community dinner at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at the Johnston Senior Center on 1291 Hartford Ave.

Bill, according to Rep. Langevin’s website, his town hall meeting is now at the Warwick City Hall, not the Warwick PD. Suggest you change this quickly and announce it ASAP on CH. 10. Warwick City Hall (for your listeners) is at 3275 Post Rd., Warwick. According to Sen. Whitehouse website, its the same place and date, but it states at 6 pm. So, I assume it gets underway by 6 pm, but opens up by 5:30 pm?
Also, will they be asking ID’s to those who want to come to these town hall meetings to see if they live in that district, both Langevin and Whitehouse? I sure hope not. Both websites say nothing to that sort of thing, so I hope it doesn’t occur. That will tell me what kind of politicians they are.
