PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island’s legislative branch suffered a Web site meltdown just as Gov. Don Carcieri prepared to release his budget for the state’s sinking economy.

The site for the General Assembly crashed at about 4 p.m. Monday and is not expected to be up and running before Wednesday.

House spokesman Larry Berman told The Providence Journal that the timing of the tech meltdown “couldn’t have been worse” as legislators prepared to review Carcieri’s budget Tuesday.

The culprit: a hardware failure that requires a replacement part to be shipped from Colorado.
