WOONSOCKET, R.I.—Woonsocket voters on Tuesday narrowed the field of candidates for mayor to two finalists.

City Council President Leo Fontaine will face former state Rep. Todd Brien, whose two previous campaigns for mayor were unsuccessful.

Fontaine won the non-partisan primary with 1,872 votes. Brien recorded 1,409 votes.

Developer Steven Lima, a political newcomer, had 1,005 votes.  Michael Mello managed only 41 votes.

The winner in the Nov. 3 election will replace seven-term Mayor Susan Menard, who decided not to run for re-election.
