PROVIDENCE—General Treasurer Frank Caprio has a nearly 3-to-1 fundraising advantage over his rival in the Democratic primary for Rhode Island governor.

Caprio’s campaign reported Monday raising about $200,000 during the three-month period ending in September but refunded about $65,000 in donations. After expenses, his total campaign account stood at roughly $1.5 million.

Attorney General Patrick Lynch, also a Democrat, raised nearly $114,000 during the same period, raising his balance to more than $562,000 after subtracting expenses.

Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who is exploring a run as an independent, took in $70,000 and loaned his campaign $50,000. He has about $200,000 in cash on hand.

Republican Rory Smith recently entered the race and is not required to file until February.

Its not how much they raise, its who they raise it from that matters.
Caprio is ahead with money but still behind in the polls. Anyone know if there is truth to the rumor he is considering running on the Moderate ticket to duck the primary?
