PROVIDENCE—The chairman of the Rhode Island Democratic Party is considering a bid to succeed his brother as state attorney general.

William Lynch said he expects to decide by the end of the summer whether to run for the state’s top law enforcement post.

His brother is Patrick Lynch, who has been attorney general since 2003 but is barred by term limits from seeking a third term. Patrick Lynch is considering a campaign for governor next year.

William Lynch was interested in the position of U.S. attorney. But the state’s two Democratic senators on Wednesday recommended veteran prosecutor Peter Neronha to President Barack Obama.
