Brown poll: Obama by 20 Percent

PROVIDENCE -- A Brown University poll of registered voters shows Democrat Barack Obama with a commanding 20 percentage point lead over Republican John McCain.

If the election were held today, 50 percent said they would vote for Obama, 30 percent for McCain, and 20 percent were undecided.

Of those who plan to vote for Obama, 75 percent said they were "satisfied" or "excited" by the candidate.

The survey found 57 percetn of those who voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the 2008 primary said they plan to vote for Obama in the general election.

The poll was taken August 18-20, and was based on a random sample of 548 registered voters.  Overall, the margin of error is about plus or minus four percent.
