NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -- U.S. Sen. John Kerry talked about housing during a stop in New Bedford on Wednesday.

Kerry met with the mayor and the executive director of MassHousing.

The topic of discussion was how a housing bill signed by President George W. Bush will benefit Massachusetts homeowners.

"What we've done is put in place a number of different measures that will have an impact on New Bedford, Fall River, Brockton and Lawrence, and many other communities' ability to be able to respond to this problem," Kerry said.

Massachusetts will have $280 million in targeted mortgage relief, which could result in as many as 1,000 new loans in the state.
