WOONSOCKET, R.I.—The city of Woonsocket is readying to open two new middle schools.

Currently more than 1,500 students attend Woonsocket Middle School, making it the largest in New England.

In January, the school will be divided into two brand new buildings.

On Monday, some of the students got a look at some of their new classrooms. Their principal is also looking forward to moving in.

“It’s a little nerve wracking because it’s exciting. This is something that we thought, at least I thought, was never going to happen,“ said principal Patrick McGee.

School officials said the project was completed ahead of scheduled and under the $80-million budget.
