WARWICK, R.I.—Tuition and fees at Rhode Island’s three public colleges are going up.
The Board of Governors for Higher Education, while acknowledging that its decision means financial hardship for students and their families, voted Monday night to hike tuition and fees from about 8 to 10 percent for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The increases mean in-state students at the University of Rhode Island will pay $948 more next year. Students at Rhode Island College will pay $578 more, while students at the Community College of Rhode Island will pay $276 more.
The Providence Journal reported that board chairman Frank Caprio expressed regret over the hikes, calling it “an extraordinarily uncomfortable decision.“
The increases are in response to deep cuts in state aid.

Yes, let’s continue to raise the cost of everything across the board, making it very difficult for a lot of family’s to get by. You push kids to educate themselves, but make it near impossible to get started in life. Why don’t we let the unresponsible bigwigs in the lending company’s, who messed up things financially (which we are paying for) dish out their big bonuses to kids who need it. You’ll never see that happen. Some kids are starting out in such debt and that’s just not fair.
My daughter attends RI college a typical 4 year degree takes 5 or more years because of the way they post classes. They screw those kids every day and now are going to charge them more!! The kids are are future yet nothing is done to help educate them..
With the tuition fee increase, many students will be devastated by this, they will need financial assistance more than ever. I just hope that with the increase of tuition fee, the government will do something about this and help the student. If you’ve ever needed financial assistance and just cannot get to a bank or use credit cards, and also don’t have the time to the nearest payday loan store, you could look into online payday loans. You didn’t think payday lenders were going online, did you? Well, they certainly are – online payday loans are actually really easy to apply for. Most online lenders perform no credit checks, and require no faxing at all, and have direct deposit capabilities, so you can get the funds from your online payday loans or online short term loans, whatever you want to call them, within a few hours of receiving your application, if you are so approved.
