Students respond to RIPTA crisis

PROVIDENCE—The budget and service cuts facing Rhode Island’s statewide bus system could have a major impact on those who ride the bus the most.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is facing a $10 million shortfall.

A group called Youth in Action has launched a Web site to explain what impact RIPTA’s financial crisis has on them and riders statewide.

Providence high school students use the bus to get to class and to school programs.

RIPTA did not immediately return a message from NBC 10 for comment on the student project.
