RI education board appoints interim commissioner

PROVIDENCE—The associate commissioner of Rhode Island’s Board of Governors for Higher Education has been promoted to interim commissioner.
The appointment of Steven Maurano was announced Friday.
He will succeed Jack Warner, who’s the new executive director of the South Dakota public schools system.
The board is searching for a new commissioner and hopes to have one in place by the start of the school year in September.
