New Bedford schools are taking precautions against mosquitoes.

The state raised the mosquito alert level from moderate to high in New Bedford, Acushnet and Freetown because more mosquitoes have tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis virus.

New Bedford public schools will continue with outdoor sports activities. But coaches must ensure that athletes are dressed appropriately and that they are sprayed with repellent.

Other school activities, including recess and physical education classes, will be moved indoors until further notice.
