NEW BEDFORD, Mass.—Officials at a high school in New Bedford say they will change the school’s logo rather than engage in a potentially costly legal battle with Virginia Tech.

Superintendent Michael Shea of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School said the school received a letter from a law firm representing the Blacksburg, Va., university saying the school’s use of the logo “is considered unauthorized and ... must be discontinued.“

The logos - a V and a T connected at the top - are similar. The university’s is maroon and orange, while the high school’s is green.

Shea told The Standard-Times that he sees the letter as a blessing in disguise that allows his school to create a new identity. He said the school will design a new logo and trademark it.

Awesome attitude Mr. Shea!  And, a great opportunity for student involvement…best of luck to you and the school!
