BRISTOL, R.I.—How would like to show up to work one day and be told what a great job you do?

How would you like to be told your contribution means so much, you’re getting a check for $25,000.

It happened Tuesday to Jaime Crowley, the assistant principal at Bristol’s Mount Hope High School.

Crowley said he was shocked when Gov. Don Carcieri announced he was going home with the Milken Educator Award.

Crowley started his teaching career at Mount Hope High School 12 years ago and became assistant principal two years ago. He’s credited with helping to raise grades and improve attendance.

Crowley got up and showed why everybody at the school adores him. He praised everyone else—teachers, administrators and of course, the students.  He said was impressed that they managed to surprise him.

Crowley said he considers it an award for the whole school, not him alone. He rushed off to tell his wife and four children about the award and the $25,000.

Crowley is a graduate of Boston College and received his teaching certificate from the University of Rhode Island.
