NEW BEDFORD, Mass.—New Bedford police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s office say the suspect 17-year-old Erick Cournoyer was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday night without incident.

Police said Bianca Rosado, of New Bedford, was shot and killed Wednesday night. Her boyfriend, Victor Camacho, 17, of New Bedford, was also shot. He remains in stable condition at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Investigators said Rosado was shot outside of 22 Collins St. in New Bedford at about 10:30 p.m. Cournoyer lives at the same address.

A spokesperson for the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said Cournoyer and Rosado knew each other.

Rosado was a student at New Bedford High School.

“Bianca was trying to get her life together. She struggled a little bit academically, but she was starting to pull it together,“ said Donald Vasconelles, New Bedford High School headmaster.

“The violence needs to stop. Human life is too precious to blow it away in a heartbeat because of whatever disagreement. I can’t imagine any disagreement warranting that kind of treatment.“

Investigators said they do not believe the killing is gang-related.

“I’m extremely concerned about it. I think we need to pull together as a community. We need everyone’s help in solving these senseless homicides,“ New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang said.

It is the fourth murder in New Bedford in recent weeks.

I am suprised they released a photo of this little punk seeing he is a minor.  What is the world coming to.

Just where did this little punk get a handgun?  Sure as heck the laws prohibiting sales didn’t stop him from getting one.

If he is the shooter, send him up the river—try him as an adult.  Don’t put him in the youth offender program and let him out when he is 21.

I knew this girl. She seemed like the last person that would be involved with this crap. She just graduated high school.
This is nuts! Everyone’s dropping left and right. Who’s next?

What in the world is happening to New Bedford? It’s starting to remind me of South Central L.A. back in the early 1990’s!

Every single day in this dump of a city is a shooting. I would love to know what the heck happened to respect for life.
