PROVIDENCE—Former Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Williams said Thursday there was nothing improper about his relationship with his former driver and her estranged husband.
Williams was pulled into a divorce case involving his former driver, Pamela DosReis, after her husband accused the judge of being overly involved in the couple’s life and in raising their now 6-year-old daughter. Williams is the child’s godfather.
Speaking publicly Thursday for the first time about the case, Williams said on WPRO that he never had a sexual relationship with Pamela DosReis. He called any suggestion of an affair a “disgusting rumor and outrageous.“ He also said he was not the father of the couple’s child.
During testimony in the divorce proceeding, it was alleged that Williams would sit on the toilet sipping wine while watching his godchild take a bath.
Williams explained.
“She’s 3 years old. It’s bath time. Her mother is cooking. She runs the water. She and Frank (DosReis), who’s now about to take a nap because he was working a double shift, asked me to watch her until it was actual bathing time,“ Williams said.
Williams said there was nothing improper about a godfather watching his goddaughter, at the request of the parents, to watch the child begin to take a bath.
Williams also said he rarely stayed overnight at the house and that when he did, it was by request of the parents.
Williams refused to allow reporters into the studio or to interview him after his appearance.
Williams retired as chief justice in December but continued to hear cases. He left the court last month, saying he didn’t want to be a distraction.
The DosReises reached a tentative divorce agreement earlier this week.

Let’s see, the judge visited this couple 3 or 4 times a week??? A bit much, I would think. Staying overnight? Why?? It stinks, to me!!
I keep trying to believe “Chiefy”‘s side here, but…. just can’t get there.
