PAWTUCKET, R.I.  - U.S. Sen Sheldon Whitehouse is meeting with families burdened by high medical bills.

The Rhode Island Democrat plans a roundtable discussion on Monday morning at the Blackstone Valley Community Action Program in Pawtucket.

His office says he’ll hear from people whose mounting medical bills have forced them to consider bankruptcy.

Legislation introduced by Whitehouse would make it faster and cheaper for people with high medical expenses to file for bankruptcy protection and keep their homes.
