EASTHAM, Mass.—A 35-foot finback whale has died in the latest in a series of marine mammal strandings on Cape Cod.

Officials said the beached whale was discovered Thursday morning near Rock Harbor, partially covered in snow and ice. A necropsy will be performed to determine how the animal died.

Four dolphins that became stranded in Wellfleet Harbor were rescued Thursday by members of the Cape Cod Stranding Network and later returned to the ocean in Provincetown.

Also Wednesday, a minke whale was coaxed back to deeper water after venturing too close to shore in Wellfleet. The town’s harbor master speculated the animals were attracted by large amounts of krill.
