STORRS, Conn.—Police have charged an 18-year-old Wethersfield man with a felony for allegedly posting threatening Internet messages after the stabbing death of football player Jasper Howard.

Christopher Mutchler faces a charges of hindering prosecution, committing an act of terrorism and several misdemeanors. He is due in court on Nov. 10.

UConn police say the messages told people not to “snitch” on those involved in the Oct. 18 stabbing of Howard outside a university sanctioned dance.

Police say they had reason to believe the messages were instilling fear and preventing witnesses from coming forward.

A man answering the phone at Mutchler’s house Thursday would not comment.

A Bloomfield man, 21-year-old John Lomax III, was charged this week with murder.
