WARWICK, R.I.—About 200 men and women from two Rhode Island National Guard units are preparing for deployment to Cuba.

The 118th Military Police Battalion and the 115th Military Police Company held a departure ceremony Tuesday at the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick.

Both units will provide security at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center for one year, but President Obama has said he wants the prison to close before January.

The units leave Thursday for Fort Lewis in Washington State, where they will receive training before going to Cuba.

This is the second time both units have been deployed together.

My nephew is one of these brave souls going to Cuba. Be safe and come home soon. You will all be missed.
