Top lawmakers want RI ban on indoor prostitution

PROVIDENCE—Legislative leaders in Rhode Island hope to pass legislation banning indoor prostitution next week.

House Speaker William Murphy and Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed outlined their priorities for a special two-day session starting Oct. 28 in letters released Wednesday.

Rhode Island is the only state in the country, along with certain counties in Nevada, that permits paid sex in private. House and Senate lawmakers couldn’t agree on compromise legislation to close the legal loophole before taking an abrupt summer break.

Murphy, a Democrat, said his chamber will also consider bills banning texting while driving and strengthening drunk driving laws. He and Paiva-Weed have scheduled December forums on ways to improve
Rhode Island’s tanking economy.

Instead of having forums in December to
help Rhode Island’s tanking economy, have them NOW. It shows that a few cheap headlines are more important
than doing truly doing something
constuctive.

AGAIN>>>RI Legislators..I challenge you to focus on getting people back to work!!This should be priority #1! The fallout with people out of work should be obvious to you, as legislators AND as residents of this state. This has been an issue LONG ENOUGH. Lack of sufficient attention with results on this issue should be a source of embarrasment.

AGAIN…If it’s not a source of embarrassment…resign. If you can’t produce..resign. Step aside or be prepared as the voters will be showing the door to ALL holding public office that are NOT producing. Sounds like a regular job…doesn’t it??

Question to us residents: How do you grade your RI legislators?

And again to all residents…be sure you are registered to vote!
