Tempers flare over closing of fire station

SCITUATE, R.I.—Taxpayers and firefighters in Scituate appeared at a heated Town Council meeting Thursday night.

Both sides aired complaints about the recent closing of the Chompist Hill Fire Department.

Some firefighters are accused of taking water from neighboring Johnston.

The Chompist fire chief said both towns have a long-standing agreement about the water, but Johnston’s mayor said he has no evidence of that.

I think it is disgraceful that the Chopmist Hill Fire Station has been shut down over petty matters.  Our community has been placed in a dangerous situation and whatever argument is to be made should not have interferred with the town’s safety.  Give us back our station and do what the rest of Rhode Island does..take your case to court!
