NAUGATUCK, Conn.—Naugatuck police say a teenager suspected of killing a 69-year-old local woman has been committed to a secure state facility for a psychiatric evaluation.

Authorities are not naming the girl, who they believe killed 69-year-old Italia Liguori last week. They say she is at a Department of Children and Families facility.

Police say they have a warrant charging the teen with murder, but can’t arrest her until after she is released from the facility.

Investigators have said Liguori was killed Sept. 30 by a relative who lived with her in her condominium in the Lantern Park complex off Mill Street.

Neighbors and friends say Liguori lived with her 17-year-old granddaughter.
