Strip club hosting job fair

PROVIDENCE—Here’s a job opportunity you won’t need to buy a new wardrobe for.

Hoping to take advantage of Rhode Island’s floundering economy, owners of the Foxy Lady strip club in Providence plan to hold a job fair on Saturday.

They say they’re looking to fill around 30 positions, from strippers and waitresses to disc jockeys and bartenders, at that club and two others in Massachusetts.

“I need more managers, I need more competent staff, and I need more attractive waitresses to go along with the ones I have right now,“ said co-owner Tom Tsoumas.

The naked truth is that Rhode Island’s economy is among the worst in the nation, with an unemployment rate of 10.3 percent in January.

The Providence club isn’t immune from the recession but is still drawing customers willing to drink and pay for lap dances, said manager Bob Travisono.

“It’s taken a hit,“ he said. “It’s not as bad as restaurants and stuff like that. In times like this, they seem to drink their sorrows away.“

Tsoumas said he hopes some who might shun strip clubs when the economy is good might consider shedding their clothes now - or at least working as a floor host or bartender.

The Foxy Lady chain is among the best-known strip club venues in southern New England, drawing the occasional professional athlete or rock musician stopping through town and hosting a popular Friday breakfast buffet known as “Legs and Eggs.“

Of course I don’t need someone to have the same views as someone to like them. But I wouldn’t call this a personal issue or a valid arguement. I just really believe this kinda stuff contributes to the corrupt soceity of this age. Do you know what goes on inside strip clubs? Some of them actually have “prostitution”, acts where you pay for sexual acts. Usually the girls are all drugged up. And as far for seeing a beautiful girl naked, most of those are far from it. If you can’t find a decent girl of your own, you might as well just pay a pretty friend who’s willing to give you a private show. As least she’ll care for you as a person. Why should you give your money to someone who just pretends they like you so you’ll give them your cash. As for the free society thing, we are far from it. You have designated driving speeds in which you must follow, you’d be arrested for doing drugs; and oh, what about gambling? That’s illegal unless you’re in a casino. I love to play poker but that’s illegal with cash (unless I’m at a casino), but strip clubs are legal. Go figure.

Mell, mell…this sounds more like a personal issue you’ve had than a valid argument.  Unlike woman, men are visual creatures and some like to see beautiful naked woman dance. In a free society, this type of business is legal. There is a difference between this and prostitution plain and simple. If you object on moral grounds everyone respects your right to do so, but to put anyone down and judge them makers more of a statement about you personally as opposed to making a valid statement about legalized strip joints.  It’s ok not to like them, but it doesn’t make those that do bad or morally corrupt people.

So far as your message to me, since I don’t frequent those places nobody is laughing at me, but I will defend anyone’s right to go there providing it is legal.  That’s what is great about America.  What would be scary is for people with very narrow beliefs and those who think anyone who doesn’t think like they do are wrong would have any power over a free society.  Nazi Germany comes to mind, think about it. You’re right, we can all love each other no matter what our personal views are, right?

Believe me, my views aren’t narrow. It’s more of a moral thing than a religious thing. I’m friend with many different kinds of people, and I don’t choose to not be friends with someone because of things like that. I know I have friends who go to those places, and I still love them; but this is just what I think. I don’t hate someone because they choose to do these things; I think it’s wrong and I really do thing the world would have less problems like cheating if this kind of stuff wasn’t socially acceptable. Like, why are strip clubs acceptable but prositution illegal? Why are drugs illegal and this ok? Anyway, love the person, hate the crime I guess.

I respect you religious based views however, my problem is with the harsh judging of things that don’t fall into your very narrow views.  If I were single and looking for somebody, that would be my dealbreaker.  So you see, the world is made up of many different people.  I find your likening a strip club to child pornography or murder to be more dramatic than necessary but again, you are entitled to your opinions.

Someone can be entertained by watching child pornography, someone being killed, incest, etc. but does that make it morally right? You can say all you want, but in my eyes and when you die and meet your maker you will find this is wrong. Personally, if I was single and looking for a man, any guy that was into that crap would be out. No decent girl would want a guy that trashy. I understand if someone’s been there etc, but thinking this is ok and making it a common practice, no way. As for me, I’ve never been to one for so called ‘entertainment’ and I never will either. I think I am entitled to my opinion…those are my firm beliefs. It’s sad that men don’t see how sad they look thinking it’s cool to pay some chick cash who thinks you’re a worthless piece of trash. Can you not get your own girl?

mellrocks, it is called entertainment.  Most of the patrons there are not looking for a future wife, they go to be entertained.  You know, some people go to the movies, some go to concerts and some go to strip clubs.  I am just glad that SOMEONE is hiring.  If you are against the idea of strip clubs may I recommend that you don’t visit those places.  No need to judge anyone else, especially those looking for work instead of a handout.

I’m not against alcohol and there are people (like cops) who need guns. No one needs to be at a stripclub. As to Tman and the other guy…do u realize that the girls there laugh at people like you? They think you are dogs and just want your money. So go ahead and give your money to some trasher who thinks you’re trash… you’re so cool now right? I mean, can’t you get your own girl to do that for you…one who cares enough for you that you don’t have to pay her for it!? That’s just sad. And for your info, no I do not need a lapdance… I’m not a lesbian.

Working at the Foxy Lady is honest work.  Don’t you think people should do Honest Work?  There is always the alternative, people could rob banks instead of work at the club.

What is wrong with a legitimate business HIRING people in this economy?  I’m sure people will be lining up to fill any open positions there and be able to support themselves or their family.  Would you rather them be on welfare? If you don’t approve of alcohol or guns would you think it’s ‘sad’ that those businesses were hiring people as well?  Where does it stop? It’s judgmental people like mellrocks that make this world sad. Maybe a lapdance is just the thing you need to loosen up!
