Store clerk defends himself with stool
Johnston Robbery Attempt
A store clerk fights off a would-be robber -- with a stool.
JOHNSTON, R.I.—A store clerk in Johnston foiled a robbery attempt with the first thing he could get his hands on—a stool.
The would-be robber didn’t get any money, but he did get more than he bargained for inside the Shop ‘N Go store on Plainfield Pike.
The clerk hurled a stool at him, sending the would-be robber out the door empty-handed Sunday afternoon.
The clerk’s brother, Abdel Eladnani, said he didn’t believe the story at first.
“He told me that someone tried to rob the joint. He passed him a note with ‘Give me all your money’” written on it, Eladnani said.
But instead of doing that, Rabi Eladnani went to the end of the counter and picked up a stool as the man approached with a knife or box cutter.
Abdel Eladnani said his brother also chucked two bottles of soda at the man before he ran off.
“I think he did the right thing,“ Eladnani said. “You cannot just go and rob people.“
Someone followed the would-be robber for a little while before losing him.
The encounter was captured on a store security camera.
