State police veteran tapped for US marshal

PROVIDENCE—A 22-year veteran of the Rhode Island State Police is President Obama’s pick as U.S. Marshal for the district of Rhode Island.

Lt. Col. Steven O’Donnell is deputy superintendent of the state police force. The president announced Friday that he is nominating him to the post.

In a news release, Obama said O’Donnell has served his country with courage and commitment.

O’Donnell did not immediately comment when reached at his office.
