Nah…dirt bike is not the same.  It struck me as being completely ignorant to say it’s a stupid decision to get on a motorcycle.  Obviously you have never been on one Semi.  Th below poster was right about one thing…someone exercised their right to ride a motorcycle and lost their life doing it.  For you to say that riding a bike is dumb…especially on here for his family to read is low.

There should be a separate-private lane for motorcycles.  It would be a lot safer than being mixed in with cars/trucks.

And I think sometimes they weave in and out of traffic in order to avoid having to stop and go every 5 seconds.  It’s not the most comfortable thing for them.

It is not right or wrong to ride a bike.  It might help in many circumstances to wear a helmet.  We should still have a choice.  As I stood over this man at 0545 this morning and observed him after calling 911, it appeared that a helmet would have done him no good.  I wonder how his family would feel about many of your comments.  As I cried over it this afternoon, I can’t help but to feel sympathy for the family.  It doesn’t matter if you agree or not with riding bikes.  This person exercised his freedom and apparently made an error and it cost him his life.  Be safe out there.  It could all be gone in an instant no matter who you are.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.“  John 3:16.

A fender bender doesn’t kill someone driving a smart car. And for the freedom of riding on a bike, get a dirt bike and hit the dunes.

And to Semi Arffi:

Are you completely ignorant?  How about all the yuppies driving around in those stupid, ugly smart cars?  Those are more of a death trap then motorcycles.  Motorcycles have been around for a hundred years…even cops patrol on them…so don’t say it’s a dumb decision to ride one…thats just ignorant.  Have you ever felt the freedom of riding one…doubt it.

To sameasabove:

The reason car drivers are told to watch out for bikes is because they can be hard to see.  Also, if there is a car/motorcycle accident…the motorcycle driver always loses.  As far as speeding in the breakdown lanes and swirving around cars…thats the freaking “crotch-rocket” riders who think they are just too cool.  Not all motorcycle riders are like that.  Drivers PLEASE be careful and watch out for bikers!!

sameasabove - i’m sure your one of those that doesn’t pay attention to anyone on the roads. don’t lump every person on a bike into the category of passing and swerving, there are those of us out there (many of us) who are driving slower and safer than those in the cars. its easier to skid to a stop in an auto, not on a bike to some moron who didn’t stop. and yes, helmets should be mandatory for all.

Sameasabove, I agree 100%. Why is it my job to drive safer around bikes when it’s their dumb decision to drive around on these death traps! With the way people drive today and the ammount of cars now on the road it makes no sense to jump on a bike. I don’t care how safe you are when driving a motorcycle, as long as there are 16 year old girls cruising around while talking on their cell phones, then driving around on a bike could possibly be the dumbest decision a person could make.

Why is it that every spring drivers are told to watch out for motorcycle riders? Why is it always the responsibility of the people in cars to watch out for bikers? More often than not i see these bikers feel like they have the right of way just because they are on a bike. Cutting between cars that are in the proper lanes, flying up breakdown lanes, not to mention the clown i saw on west shore road the other day talking on his cell phone while trying to stay steady on his bike. I really wanted to see that fool fall!!

I understand that we all need to pay a little more attention during the warmer months due to bikers and kids out of school but please stop making it out to seem like the bikers are always the victims.

from my friend:  “He was going so fast that he couldnt turn away from the barricade. he hit it and went flying like 20 feet. the bike was a motocross type of bike. he was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and shoes and no helmet. No other vehicle was a part of the crash.“

so there’s your update everyone. Tragic but when you drive recklessly there are consequenses.
