RI to lower weight limit on 5 bridges

PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island transportation authorities are lowering the weight limit on five bridges in the state.
Officials say the move is necessary to preserve the bridges until they can repaired or replaced.
The bridges are located in Bristol, East Providence, Narragansett and Richmond.
Michael Lewis, the director of the state transportation department, said Thursday the change may be inconvenient for some drivers but is necessary based on bridge inspections.
The weight limits won’t affect passenger cars and are generally directed at trucks and other vehicles with heavy loads.
The state’s 772 bridges are inspected at least once every two years.

If these Rhode Island transportation authorities worked in the private sector, they would be fired for incompetency.
What ever happened to who what when why and where? WHAT 5 BRIDGES???
What Obama $$ has the state actually gotten? They’re making MILLIONS on the Pawtucket Bridge in fines, I’m sure they’re counting on making even more with these additional closings. It’s a joke.
Why is the state not using the Obama money to fix the bridges (which would create jobs)??? Putting weight limits on them is just an annoyance… and paying cops big bucks to watch them 24/7 must be costing a fortune too.
