PROVIDENCE—Amtrak is investing $3.4 million in Rhode Island for security improvements and facility upgrades.

Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, both Rhode Island Democrats, announced the funding Wednesday.

It comes from the federal economic stimulus package approved by Congress last month.

The senators said the money would cover upgrades at Providence’s Amtrak station, security improvements and wireless access points.
