RI police to step up drunken driving patrols

PROVIDENCE,—Rhode Island State Police say they’ll be on the lookout for drunken drivers during the July Fourth weekend.

The police say they’ll have extra patrols targeting speeders, seat belt violators, aggressive drivers and motorists who appear drunk.

They say the July Fourth weekend is the second deadliest holiday period nationwide, behind the New Year’s Day holiday.

The police are asking people to dial 911 or “star 77” on their cell phones to report a suspected drunken driver.

the reason the laws are not enforced is because this state is run by democrats(bleeding hearts). You have a republican governor who cant get the demecrats mayors to crack down on imigration. Why, bleeding hearts(demecrats). You get cought drinking and driving, jail, thats it.

Unfortunately, I’m not kidding (and I’m not making a blanket statement about female attorneys. Corruption and complacency in our judicial system and an overbooked “justice” system is one of the reason our government is failing us.  The crooks in the RI supreme court just neutered our ethics commission and the courts are oversaw by the judicial committee in the general assembly.  Incest is not best. I’ve got to ask, are you for real? You can have all the laws you like, but when they’re not enforced you get what we have today.

are you for real, a female lawyer will make the dui disapear in the male judges chambers. Are you kidding. I don’t think we should worry about Nepotism , we should worry about sissy laws. You do it you go to jail. People loose their rite to drive all the time, and they still drive

We don’t need more laws or to give the police the ability to stop people at a whim, we need to have to courts enforce the laws.  If you find the right lawyer, a female lawyer for example, who intimately knows a male judge, they can make a DUI disappear in chambers.  And there are many more scenarios here in RI.  (Nepotism isn’t the only blatant issue in our judicial system.)  It happens more than people realize.

My problem is they maybe out there to stop drunk driver, but what good does it do. Look at the counsilwoman, or the mother with the 4 year old in the car. I know there was also a guy that worked in RI government who was caught a while back. The court doesn’t real stand behind the officer.  They need tougher laws. I know what smitty is saying there are going to be a few cops out there who will go too far. As a cop it must be frustrating to stop a drunk driver then basically have that driver laugh in their face when they walk out of a court room with a slap on the wrist. Now combine the one that has had a few too many while using a cell phone. That is certain trouble.

Go ahead and keep yourselves amused—all of you keep on reading things into what I said that aren’t there.  I made a statement on what is probably going to happen, not faulting the police—but the system, since the guy out on the road is just following orders.  If all of you are so juvenile that you have to make those comments and show your true age, just keep on doing it—and have fun.  See you children elsewhere.

Smitty if you get pulled over by the cops and all you were doing was talking to your kids then you’ve got nothing to worry about. obviously if there is nothing wrong then you aren’t going to get a ticket correct? Sure its inconvenient. But if cops assumed every driver who swerved was just answering a cell phone call then we’d have a lot of drunks on the road. Dont sit down too hard Smitty, you’ll crush your brain.

Just some information for you all. Police get paid a hourly rate no matter how many stops they do. Police look for Drunk Drivers to SAFE LIVES..RI is the worst state for DUI deaths. So unless you have ever had to walk to a parents door or loved one to tell them a Drunk Driver just killed your son, daughter, mom, or dad. keep your money and police comments to yourself. Police are always the bad guys until you need them.

I never said the laws were a joke.  I also NEVER said it was OK to drink and drive.  And FYI, I don’t drink either.  You seem to like to read your own interpretation of what people post here.

Please stop making accusations that you can’t prove—and stop trying to make off that you’re perfect.  For all we know, you may be the worst driver in Rhode Island—or maybe you’re just trying to stick up for your buddies that pass out those tickets.
