PROVIDENCE—State health officials have said five Rhode Island beaches are now safe for swimming, but three others should be closed.

The Department of Health said Thursday that bacteria were at acceptable levels at Atlantic Beach Club Beach in Middletown, Camp Grosvenor in North Kingstown, Fort Adams State Park in Newport, and
Scarborough State Beach North and South in Narragansett.

But the department also recommended closing three other beaches: the Barrington Town Beach, Oakland Beach in Warwick and the Warren Town Beach.

The department said it would continue to monitor the beaches and would recommend when they should be open again.
