RI greyhound racing about to end for the season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Greyhound racing at Twin River is scheduled to end for the season this weekend. But Saturday’s races may not be the last ones this year for the bankrupt slot parlor.
Rhode Island lawmakers have proposed running 200 days of live racing at its greyhound track, even though current law only requires 125.
Gov. Don Carcieri vetoed the legislation, but lawmakers in the Democratic-dominated General Assembly have said they expect to override it.
Patti Doyle, spokeswoman for Twin River, says greyhound racing is a money-losing facet of the business that can’t be sustained.
But Jennifer Bramley, spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Greyhound Owners Association, says it’s in Twin River’s interest to keep greyhound racing going in the coming weeks for the attendance and revenue.

Another comment on the “slot parlors” in RI… My understanding is that in order to have the video gaming, there has to be so many live venues during the year. If this is so, then how has Newport been able to stay open for the past couple of years??? And the state raids the Narragansett Indians for selling cigarette?????
I agree with you, plantegraffix, this is definitely a “casino”. Wait a minute, didn’t the people of RI vote a “casino” down in the election? Oh, that’s right, the corrupt politicians in RI just do as they please. Your votes didn’t count.
Misty, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and smells like a duck, its a @#$!ing DUCK!
unfortunately for them.. it isn’t a casino… that would require tables.. it is and will be a slot parlor
Well, they finally got what they wanted from the beginning… a casino. It just goes to show that your vote in Rhode Island is not worth a damn.
