PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island sports fans may soon be able to display their loyalty on their license plates.
The Providence Journal reports that a House committee on Thursday approved bills that would allow the state to create license plates bearing either the Boston Red Sox or New England Patriots logos.
They now go to the full House. Similar legislation is moving through the Senate.
The plates would benefit both the state and charities. Drivers could purchase the plates for a $40 charge on top of the standard registration fee. Half the additional fees would go to the state and half to charity - either the Jimmy Fund or the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation.
A similar program in Massachusetts has raised millions of dollars.

PBruins or PawSox would be nice but it’s all about making money for the charities.
Oh yeah, of course the State gets their 50% cut as well.
The only part the State should get is what it actually costs to produce the plates and implement them.
Would it make better sense to have Providence Bruins or PawSox plates? These are teams we are Proud of!
What about Yankee and Jets plates? LOL
There was an article in the Journal a few years ago about the Colonel opposing any type of new plates.
Felt it would make it more difficult for his troopers to tell which plate was which.
Also have been told this by several troopers personally.
SnoBrdr..where would you have gotten that information??
Yeah..for the Red Sox plate!
Its about time considering 45% of the season ticket holders for the patriots are from RHODE ISLAND.Lol I CANT WAIT TO GET MY PATRIOTS PLATE
It’s about time.
Have tried to get these for years but the super dooper,s err, troopers have always been against them.
Antique plates for motorcycles as well.
