RI AG plans to contest electricity rate hike
Published: June 3, 2009
PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island’s attorney general plans to contest National Grid’s request for a rate hike that could increase a typical residential electric bill by more than 11 percent.
Attorney General Patrick Lynch said Wednesday the electric utility’s request was especially burdensome for customers during the recession.
Rhode Island’s unemployment rate stands at 11.1 percent, the fourth highest in the country. National Grid has about 424,000 residential customers in Rhode Island.
The company said Monday it was seeking a 35 percent increase in distribution rates, which account for about one quarter of the typical electric bill for residential customers.

Nothing will happen. The rates will rise and we will forget. The AG is just part of the RI theater.
Nothing happens here. The airport expands, crime rises, values drop, utility rates increase, companies exodus, prostitution and trafficking stay legal, roads crumble, #1 drug use state, #1 child porn state, #1 welfare, illegal immigrant etc etc etc….
Did you ever think that the people we elect are the same who profit from all of the above? How many politicians have you seen convicted in the last few years? Is that normal?
Bet you pay more for cable than your electric bill. I know I do.
They are supposed to be a non-profit business. That does not stop them from paying big money to the top people. I hope the AG can put a stop to this one. My bill has almost doubled and It’s not even air conditioner season!!
When is ENOUGH going to be ENOUGH??? How about they let us see what their executives are being paid!! I’m sure it’s much MORE than any of us have ever even thought of earning! And, let’s see their profit margin!
Look are your bill, I mean really LOOK AT IT. The price is not that bad, UNTIL they add all the other fees that most people don’t even look at (same thing with telephone and cell phone service)!! And, what are you supposed to do??? Where else can you go to buy electricity or phone service without such fees?? Oh yes, I just remembered….. NOWHERE!
I read in a local newspaper the rate hike is for safety of the lines.. In my opinion my are using that as a leverage point. National Grid is going to use any kind of excuse to raise the rates.. I would like to see there profit margins.. How much money have they been making themselves?? Now they say the line are not safe.. Yea ok!!!
Must be the AG is running for gov. Yep, all of a sudden he’s gonna take up for us little guys. SURE HE IS NOT it’s all about getting elected.
As far as NG is concerned, I guess Billions in profits is not enough. Oh I forgot there were less billions in 08 than in the year before.
