JOHNSTON, R.I.  - A Johnston priest and others in Rhode
Island’s large Italian population are collecting aide for victims
of the earthquake in Italy that has killed an estimated 207 people
so far and displaced tens of thousands.

The Providence Journal reports that Rev. Mario Titotto, of St.
Rocco Church, is collaborating with other priests to raise money.

Organizers are using The Italy Relief Fund, a Rhode Island group
founded years ago after previous earthquakes in San Giuliano di
Puglia and in Spello.

The priests are planning a special collection at all Masses
later this month.

Others groups in the state, including the Dante Society of
Westerly and the Town of North Providence, are also collecting
money to send to Italy.
