ACUSHNET, Mass.—The Animal Rescue League of Boston is offering a $5,000 dollar reward, for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the shooting of an Acushnet family cat last week.
The feral cat, named Cali, was shot with a bow and arrow. The cat did not survive the shooting.
Rescue League Officer Christopher Charbonneau told NBC 10 his organization is offering the reward because of the “heinous nature” of the incident, and also to get the public more involved in animal rescue cases.
Acushnet police have the arrow as evidence.
Those with information about the case was urged to contact the Acushnet Police Department at 508-998-0240 or the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Law Enforcement Department at 617-226-5610 or 617-426-9170.
Reader Reactions
BTW, state statute supersedes municipal ordinance, kenneth. Looking that one up should take you a while.
Game on kenneth. My “boring” post of that law was in response to your ridiculous comment that “home owners can protect there property setting traps and poisons, shooting depends where you live.“ Do you want us to believe that setting poison and traps is a benevolent move? Do you even know what that word means? Don’t take me on with law enforcement issues kenneth. You will lose 99% of the time.
Well Alke if you would have read my last post( you can read?) I owned up on the leash law and also explained malice intent twice before you went and posted your boring comment and wrote the whole law, too late to stand on your soap box and bang your chest.
I bet your an independent now LOL.
Posted by kennethknk on November 02, 2009 at 10:58 am: There are leash laws and each town has there own wich include cats, home owners can protect there property setting traps and poisons, shooting depends where you live.
§ 4-1-5 Malicious injury to or killing of animals. – (a) Every person who cuts out the tongue or otherwise dismembers any animal, maliciously, or maliciously kills or wounds any animal, or maliciously administers poison to or exposes any poisonous substance with intent that the poison shall be taken or swallowed by any animal, or who maliciously exposes poisoned meat with intent that the poison meat is taken or swallowed by any wild animal, shall be imprisoned not exceeding two (2) years or be fined not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), and shall, in the case of any animal of another, be liable to the owner of this animal for triple damages, to be recovered by civil action. In addition, any person convicted under this section is required to serve ten (10) hours of community restitution. The community restitution penalty shall not be suspended or deferred and is mandatory.
As usual kennethknk, wrong again. This is RI Gen. Law on Cruelty to Animals. If you would take notice, there is no mention of the animals political affiliation.
Thank you for the compliment Chesapeake. I wondered if I missed something when kenneth called you a girl. No superior intellect here, just make sure I know what I am talking about before I post. Like you Chesapeake, I am not “snooty” and, also like you, I am not a Republican. I guess we both are smart though! ![]()

I am glad you know I wouldn’t hurt any animal even if it was Republican I just have a sick sence of humor, and I also know your not Republican you just defend them for what reason I don’t know or care.
And I stand corrected on the cat leash law however the posions and traps are for Republican Rodants like Rats and snakes and spinless worms.
Where some of my friends live you can hunt with weapons on there property and sometimes pets get killed by accident and I would hate to say but just for the kill too and believe me the police and DEM couldn’t do crap about it because they can’t prove malice intent, and it is the same for this poor cat too.
I am sorry I thought you was a girl you must be what that Republican Governor of California Arnold calls people like you Girrrliemen.
I was correct on the snooty too it
was no mistake for your intelect.
I try to change the way I feel about the Republicans but they keep coming up with something else to hate them for, I always ask God to forgive me for that though, and if there was a bad accident and a Republican was bleeding to death I can’t say I would give them first aid yet but I would call 911 for them so I am getting better, maybe you are starting to get the better of me LOL.
God Bless
Why so much talk about a cat. Lets worry about the economy instead
“Cats r a dime a dozen…get another one!“
That may be so, but what if it was your child? Are they a dime a dozen too? If something happens to your child, do you have another one? Your pet, whether it’s a cat or dog, has their own personality.
poor kitty, that’s just not right
One incident certainly doesn’t make a murderer, but I would think about it if I lived in the Acushnet area.
I am sure that the more intelligent readers knew exactly what I meant, but for further clarification to YOU kenneth: If I lived in an area where a cat had been cruelly and purposefully killed in this manner, I would be very concerned as to the other activities of the person who did it. While 1 action does not necessarily a dangerous predator to humans, I would be concerned. This time it happened in Acushnet, but the LOCATION does not make a difference. Merely, that the people of where ever this happens should be concerned. This I know.
I am not sure why I grace you with a response kenneth. I must be a little bored.
You know TiredofRI,
I have a 90lb tortoise and people ask me if she shows love. Not like a dog but she holds her neck out for me to scratch and thats trust!! Thats how she loves. Some people just don’t understand and it’s their loss!
