Report: Neuro-rehabilitation center closing
Published: December 5, 2008
A rehabilitation center in southeastern Massachusetts will be closing.
Wingate Healthcare runs the 124-bed Neuro-Rehabilitation Center at Middleboro for people with brain injuries.
Wingate said financial problems are forcing the closure, according to The Standard-Times.
One of the center’s residents is Ellen Engelhardt, a Massachusetts state trooper struck by a drunken driver in Wareham in 2003. She remains severely brain-damaged since the accident and can’t speak.
Englehardt and other patients will be moved to other locations.

I am a former employee of NRC in Middleboro and I am extremely happy I left. There is no reason why they should be closing because of finances! Not like the residents had “the best” equiptment being used on them. Beds didn’t work properly, tubs were on each unit but haven’t been in use for YEARS, showers were disgusting, people were hired just to fill spots and not give the residents the proper care they deserved. Maybe if they kept the good employees and didn’t spend so much money on agency nursing/cna’s or outside laundry/housekeeping then maybe they would have some money for the residents. It was a horribly ran facility I feel bad for all the good staff and for all of the residents who deserve nothing but the best!
