Voters at a special town meeting in Rehoboth on Monday opted to institute a local meals tax.

The Sun Chronicle reported that state officials estimate the town could raise as much as $46,000 annually from the tax, which amounts to an increase of 75 cents on a $100 dinner tab.

There are about 40 businesses in town that serve food.

Voters also effectively shut down plans to fund a solar energy project.

75 cents on a $100 meal tab?

They should have named this the Francis Farm Tax bc I can’t think of one other place in Rehoboth where you would go and sit down for a dinner that would cost anywhere near that. You are hard pressed to find a place in Reho that doesn’t involve pizza, chinese, or Dunkies. And that would be the TWO pizza places, the ONE chinese place and the ONE dunkin donuts in town. Oh Rehoboth, you crack me up.

The solar project could have saved more money than the meal tax will make but they would have to spend money to save money.  Makes no sense to me!
