Rehoboth may boost restaurant tax

REHOBOTH, Mass.—Rehoboth voters may boost town revenue, by raising the town’s restaurant tax.
Among the items on Monday’s special town meeting warrant is a request to increase the restaurant tax by 0.75 percent, or about 75 cents on a $100 restaurant bill.
Massachusetts is giving cities and towns the option of raising both the restaurant and hotel taxes, as a way to increase local revenue.
The Department of Revenue told The Sun Chronicle an increase in the restaurant tax may mean as much as $46,000 in additional revenue for Rehoboth annually.
Voters will also be asked to approve a temporary tax increase, or a debt exclusion, for a solar energy project, that could save the town money in electricity costs.
